How to Install New Memory on a PC
In order to install a memory on your computer, you first of all need a screwdriver. You must know how to open a computer and recognize the RAM slots. If the computer is on, you need to turn off the computer as its hazardous if we perform the memory installation process when the computer is on, this could lead to entire system failure, especially the motherboard. Also you need to first see how much memory you have it you will not be in a confusion state when you are installing a new one. Moreover you need to see how many slots are available for upgrade.
Computer memory is measured in MBs (Megabytes) and GBs (Gigabytes) but now we have usually the memory running in GB. GB is the measure of the bytes which the memory consists of.
Do read your computer manual before installing the memory to safeguard your work. Now when you open up the computer you will have different slots lying there, so you need to find which slots is empty and then workout to fix or install the requisite memory in its respective slot.
Now you are able to identify the slot, fix the memory gently along the slot and press it a bit so that it is fixed properly on the slot, never force it if its not fitting onto the slot as the memory can be damaged.
So now you have successfully fixed the memory onto its respective slot but still it needs to be verified that its working fine and properly installed. To do this, switch on your computer and go to My Computer>Right click, you will notice the consolidated size of memory.
For instance if are running a memory of 1GB and add some additional of 1GB, the computer must show 3GB ram (in some cases it shows slightly less then 3 GB ram which is correct)
But if you are not able to see the indication of the memory GB wise then you need to turn off your computer and take the memory from the slot and re-fix it again, if still the memory is not reflecting on the system, then there might some other issues :
- Memory not compatible with the motherboard, you are using SD ram instead of DDR one
- Memory might be at error or damaged
- Slot is not compatible with the respective memory
- Motherboard is unable to detect the memory due to some problem etc.
- There are several crucial tool to find the new memory.
